“Don’t underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.”

– Winnie the Pooh

First, I hope this shocked baby photo made you smile and forget about “productivity” for a moment.

Most likely, you are either guilty or you feel guilty (or both), and the guilt is disruptive in your life, impacting your relationships with family and friends and driving you crazy!

How do I know that YOU are guilty? Because I am guilty, too, and when I’m not guilty, I FEEL guilty. I don’t know which is worse.

What are we guilty of?

We’re guilty of NOT disconnecting from technology when we’re spending time with family and friends, and we’re probably guilty of NOT taking care of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves.  Have you ever had a family member or friend get mad at you because you were more involved with something other than what you were doing with them?

What makes us feel guilty?

I feel guilty when I don’t check my email every 15 minutes, or when I’m not otherwise doing some “productive” activity. How about you?

ARGGHH! I couldn’t do it. I’ve only written a few sentences, and I HAD to check my email! Really, I’m not that important, and anyone who tries to reach me isn’t in a life and death situation where the lack of my immediate response means that someone dies.

In looking for something interesting to write about for this week’s Motivational Monday blog post, I found a great article written by Kate Bratskeir and published in The Huffington Post. The article is way too long to repost here, but you can read it for yourself and see how seemingly unproductive activities actually increase productivity:  The Habits of Supremely Happy People

So ….. I’m giving you permission to enjoy your time by yourself, and your time with family and friends. Go ahead, disconnect. Focus on the important relationships in your life. Pay attention. Go to the gym. Enjoy a good meal. Turn off your phones, pads and computers. Engage with people. Laugh.

We haven’t had a lot of good news lately, but here’s a fun video of one of my favorite newscasters, and even if you’ve seen it, I bet it makes you laugh:

Do you know what types of content get shared the most in social media? It’s not information about real estate markets or mortgage interest rates, that’s for sure! Video is hot, it’s easy to find or create, and it gets people engaged.

Imagine having a marketing machine that keeps you in front of your most important people, driving repeat and referral business automatically, leaving you free to enjoy the things in life that really matter!  Automation is the answer.  Check out MySMARTblog here:  New Rules of Marketing
